Javea (called Xabia, in the Valenciano dialect) is the oldest known Roman settlement on Spain's east coast, dating as far back as the second century A.D.
Javea, the old town, is one of the three distinct sections that comprise this popular holiday destination on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Javea sits just south of the imposing Montgo Mountain at the northern end of this 200 kilometer stretch along the Eastern coast of Valencia that’s famous for its crystal clear waters, white sand beaches and 300 days of fun in the sun.

One of the main attractions of Javea, Arenal beach is the perfect place to chill out and take in the sun and enjoy the splendid Mediterranean. It’s a crescent shaped playground with soft golden sand that gently slopes down to the calm and crystal clear waters. Playa de Arenal is cited by the World Health Organization as "near perfect" for its cleanliness, and is rated as a blue flag beach.
One of the three sections that make up the town of Javea, the port area is itself sub-divided into three distinct zones - the fish port by the entrance, the marina where recreational boats are parked, and the dam area on the eastern side of the port. Each day the Aduanas del Mar (the official name of Javea's port) buzzes with activity as fishing boats come in with their catch for the day, and people go about their business on the bustling promenade. But despite on-going development projects, the port area has managed to retain much of the rustic charm that has made it a favorite holiday destination.
